Shortly after the first snowfall of the season, the pikas were busily making their final preparations for winter. Within a few weeks, the area was buried under many feet of snow.
Compared to nearby national parks, Mojave National Preserve is an overlooked gem. We reached the summit of this peak just at sunset, and had an exciting hike down in the dark.
This entire creek emerges full-fledged from several cliff springs at the top of the frame. An incredible place, to be sure.
